California:
Social networking platform Facebook has introduced a new 'Link History' setting
that will create a specific record of all links clicked on the Facebook mobile
app.
Like Apple
and Google, Meta has been exploring new ways to collect data while
strengthening privacy since lawmakers introduced technology regulations.
The company
has given users the option to avoid turning on this setting. However, the
company is urging users to adopt it as the data it collects will be used for
advertising.
In this
regard, the company has introduced a link history feature for users, using
which browsing information can be saved in one place. Users will not lose any
links after the new setting.
In a pop-up
in the app, the company prompts users to agree to the new tracking mechanism.
According to
the company, when users use Link History, the company may use the user
information to improve the advertising service.
The toggle
in the pop-up is turned on by the app so that people can easily accept link
history.
Facebook has
assured that if the user turns off the toggle, the link history created will be
deleted within 90 days.
According to
Facebook's help patch, this feature is currently not available everywhere. It
will be introduced globally over time.
